Photo Shoot With Whitney

After our long day in the sun, Whitney wanted some photos taken.  Since she rarely lets me take her picture, I jumped at the opportunity.  Below are the results.  Enjoy!

Possibly the Only Summer Weather We'll Get

These last two days have been absolutely amazing!  The kids' last day of school was last Friday so I haven't seen them very much.  They've been taking advantage of the good weather in their own way, roaming town with their friends.  Yesterday (Tuesday) was the warmest day we've had yet.  It got up to 74 degrees!  It was awesome!  Austin and Whitney were out with their friends and Mike is underway so I hung out with my friends here at home.  I love documenting the fun times that are had here.  That said, the first few pictures don't have any pictures of our kids, they are just for fun to show you all what we do when its warm.  Today, Whitney and I went to Skaters' Cabin on Eyak Lake with the other moms and their kids.  It was absolutely gorgeous!  You won't see the cabin in the pictures, but it has a nice parking area, so that's where we landed.  Enjoy!

There's a Slip'n'slide down the hill in front of the kids.

That's Whitney, swimming out to the dock.

This is my favorite picture from the last two days!

She's jumping to fend off the cold.  She said that the water was colder than Boone Lake at Easter time.

Baseball

So, contrary to what we were told, they DO have Little League in Alaska.  There weren't enough girls to form a softball team, so they put the girls that did sign up on baseball teams.  There weren't enough boys Austin's age to make a team at all, so he doesn't get to play.  He will, however, get to help coach and earn volunteer hours for high school next year.  Whitney played really well.  She was two for three at bat and made some good plays playing short stop, third base, first base, and she even pitched.  She didn't do terribly for never having pitched a baseball game a day in her life.  Her team lost.  By a lot.  They turned off the scoreboard when it was 31-6 in the fourth inning.  Whitney was selected player of the game by the umpires because of her positive attitude in the face of a crushing defeat.  I'm so proud of her!  Enjoy!

Check out that dimple.  She's SO pretty!

Valdez Basketball Tournament

Last weekend, Austin participated in and I chaperoned a basketball tournament in Valdez.  It was nice to get out of town for the weekend!  Austin had a great time and played really well.  His team only won one of four games, but he scored 29 points in the four games.  Austin is a very physical player and very fun to watch!  I didn't take pictures at the Junior High basketball awards, but his coach gave him the Most Inspirational award.  Coach said that when Austin is on the court, he gives 110% the whole time and that his team mates would do well to follow his example.  Anyway, at the Valdez tournament, Austin and one of his team-mates, Cameron, won All-Tournament awards.  All-tournament awards are given to the players of each team whom the coaches think would form the best single team from the tournament.

Oh, and the view from the ferry was beautiful!  Enjoy!

This was the three point shoot-out.  Austin made eight three pointers in one minute.
