Furniture!!

It was a long month sleeping on air mattresses and sitting in camping chairs, but that's all over now!  I had all the boxes unpacked and out of the house on Monday, but I wanted to wait until I had everything the way I wanted it before I posted pictures.

Silly girl!

Believe it or not, her room was clean yesterday :/  When Mike gets home, we're going to figure out how to hang curtains.  The two corner windows are going to be tough to work around.

I can't wait until Mike retires so we can get grown up bedroom furniture!

Hartney Bay

Yesterday was a beautiful Summer day that felt more like a beautiful Spring day.  It was 63 and sunny so the kids and I got out of the house and spent a couple of hours at Hartney Bay.  It's five miles out Whitshed (pronounced Whiteshed) Road.  Austin and I learned that there are no fishing restrictions there so he took his pole in the hopes that he'd catch his first salmon.  Whitney and I went for a walk on a hiking trail while Austin fished.  It was so warm in the sun that I lay on the gravel and soaked it up!

You can see Cordova in the distance, on the right.

Look closely.  All those little dots are bugs.  There must have been millions of them.  When we walked toward them, they all took flight, but stayed close to the ground.  It was quiet enough that we could hear them swarm!

Austin caught his first salmon!

Salmon Festival

Our Saturday was fun!  We're getting out of the house and making friends.  This weekend Cordova celebrated its livelihood by holding its annual Salmon Festival.  Yesterday morning was the Salmon Runs, in which the kids ran the 5k.  Austin finished 2nd overall with a time of 21:30 and Whitney finished 3rd for the women with a time of 28:52.  I'm so proud of my runners!

Our group!

The boy that finished behind Austin is Zach Hamberger.  His dad is the Cross Country coach for the middle/high school.  Zach was the middle school's top runner last year.

The following are the Salmon Festival.  There were some other activities scattered throughout town, but for the most part, this was it.  This is the smallest festival I've ever seen!
Mt. Eyak was the backdrop.

Boot Dryer and Pantry

Mom sent me an email asking about the stick things in the mud room and whether we had a pantry or not.  So the following pictures are of our pantry and the boot dryer.

This is bigger than it looks.  There's more room to the right and several of the boxes are stacked two deep.

This is what the stick thing looks like when its in use, actually, it would be plugged in.  They blow warm air through the boots/shoes so they dry quickly to prevent odor.

So, there ya go.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!
